With a GDP of $203.7 billion, Peru was the fifth-largest economy in Latin America, alongside Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, and Colombia3,4.
A Market Driven by Imports
Peru's medical device market was valued at $390 million, and the country relies heavily on imports, with more than 97% of medical devices coming from international suppliers.
Rising Demand for Quality Care
In recent years, Peru has made progress in improving health infrastructure, expanding access to health services, and modernizing public institutions, with a goal of universal coverage set for 2021 and 2022.
Peru's growing middle class is increasingly turning to private healthcare and expects more from providers. About 2 million people are aged 65 or older, and demand is rising for quality care for older adults and for patients with cancer, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes.
The private health sector has grown quickly over the past five years, driven by rising insurance coverage.
